LibreELEC Home Theater Distribution Update 9.2.1

Published project release FreeELEC 9.2.1, developing fork of the distribution kit for creating home theaters OpenELEC. The user interface is based on the Kodi media center. For loading prepared by images for working from a USB drive or SD card (32- and 64-bit x86, Raspberry Pi 1/2/3/4, various devices on Rockchip and Amlogic chips). The new version has added a section to the configurator for configuring the use of VPN WireGuard and improved support for working on Raspberry Pi 4 boards (improved performance and output quality in 1080p and 4K modes).

With LibreELEC, you can turn any computer into a media center that is as easy to use as a DVD player or set-top box. The basic principle of the distribution is β€œeverything just works”, to get a completely ready-to-use environment, you just need to download LibreELEC from a flash drive. The user does not need to take care of keeping the system up to date - the distribution kit uses a system for automatically downloading and installing updates, activated when connected to the global network. It is possible to expand the functionality of the distribution through a system of add-ons that are installed from a separate repository developed by the project developers.

Recall that LibreELEC was created as a result of a conflict between the OpenELEC maintainer and a large group of developers. The distribution does not use the package base of other distributions and relies on own developments. In addition to the standard Kodi capabilities, the distribution provides a number of additional functions aimed at maximizing the simplification of work. For example, a special configuration add-on is being developed that allows you to configure network connection parameters, manage LCD screen settings, and allow or disable automatic installation of updates. The distribution supports such features as using a remote control (control is possible both via infrared and via Bluetooth), organizing file sharing (Samba server is built-in), built-in BitTorrent client Transmission, automatic search and connection of local and external drives.
