DOOM I and II Update Brings Support for Custom Addons, 60 FPS, and More

Almost every player is familiar with the DOOM franchise: some have joined it through more recent games, and some enjoyed the extermination of sprite demons back in the nineties. And now Bethesda has released an update that will slightly modernize the first two parts of the cult series.

Recall: on December 10, to the 26th anniversary of DOOM, Bethesda presented DOOM: Slayers Collection with all editions of the cult shooter series. It premiered on PS4 and Xbox One on the same day. The cost of the kit is set at $30. The disk contains DOOM 2016, while DOOM, DOOM II: Hell on Earth and DOOM 3 are available for download.

DOOM I and II Update Brings Support for Custom Addons, 60 FPS, and More

The longevity of this series of games is, to a certain extent, owed to a dedicated community. Users are still creating their own levels for DOOM I and II, adding new features, and even completely overhauling games in some mods.

Bethesda decided to improve on an aging classic by using some of the community content. The company implemented add-on support for the first DOOM and its sequel. As with custom content for other Bethesda titles, add-ons must be reviewed and approved by the company before being made officially available. The content will appear in the game after downloading the extended versions of DOOM I or II through the Bethesda downloader.

Basically it will be level packs and general improvement modifications. But Bethesda has also added some modern features to these games: support for 60fps, different aspect ratio options, quick save and load, level and weapon selection.

A complete list of features that appeared with the latest patch can be found in the official change log. Those wishing to purchase DOOM 1993 ΠΈ DOOM II can find them in the Bethesda.net store for 109 rubles each.

In the first part, integrate Sigil modification from id Software co-founder John Romero, and the second game will be expanded with the amateur Final DOOM level set and the No Rest for the Living expansion.

DOOM Eternal and DOOM 64 Remastered by Bethesda postponed until March 20, 2020. Both games will release on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch, with Eternal also coming to the Google Stadia streaming library.
