The release of the graphics editor GIMP 3.0.6 has been presented. New functionality is being developed in the GIMP 3.1 branch, which will form the basis for the stable release of GIMP 3.2, which will include support for link layers and vector layers, as well as expanded support for the CMYK color model and color management capabilities.
Among the changes in GIMP 3.0.6:
- GIMP 3.1.2 backported support for rendering brush, font, and palette thumbnails using the background and foreground colors of the active theme. For example, when selecting Dark Mode, brushes can now be displayed as light colors on a dark background, rather than just on a white background.
- The code changes for applying filters in non-destructive mode have been ported from the development branch, improving the stability and performance of filters, implementing the ability to apply non-destructive filters to channels, and synchronizing the code state to simplify bug fixes between the stable and experimental branches.
- The palette import dialog has been updated to allow filtering of various palette formats, including Adobe ASE, CSS, and GPL. Issues with importing palettes in ACB (Adobe Color Book) format have been resolved.
- Fixed an issue where the tab for setting up printable image parameters would disappear when running GIMP in an isolated environment, such as when using flatpak and snap packages.
- Improved usability of slider controls: after switching to GTK3, when hovering over them, some users would see a hand cursor instead of an arrow, making it difficult to accurately select a position.
- Fixed crashes on the platform Windows, which occurred when opening or exporting files in some non-English configurations due to a bug in Windows UCRT.
- Resolved an issue that caused a crash when changing the text outline color in the Text Tool.
- Improved transparency handling in filters and transformations when importing images in formats that don't support transparency, such as JPEG. For example, transparency wasn't added when rotating layers.
- Improved platform support macOS.
- Updated versions of GEGL 0.4.64 and babl 0.1.116 libraries.
- Fixed six vulnerabilities that could lead to buffer overflows or integer overflows when parsing images in the ILBM, FF, WBMP, DCM, and ICNS formats. These vulnerabilities could potentially be exploited to execute code when opening specially crafted files in GIMP.
