KDE Plasma 6.0.4 Update: Wayland Improvements and Many Fixes

The KDE Plasma 6.0.4 update is now available, bringing improvements to Plasma Wayland, Discover and other components.

KDE Plasma 6.0.4, the latest update to the popular desktop environment, has been released, bringing a number of significant improvements and fixes. This version was the fourth of five planned maintenance updates for KDE Plasma 6, improving performance and interface, as well as fixing various bugs and crashes.

Key improvements in KDE Plasma 6.0.4

  • Multiple Wallpaper Selection: Users can now select multiple wallpapers from the Add New Wallpaper dialog, making it easy to personalize their desktop.

  • Task management optimizations: The update has reduced the threshold for displaying text in the traditional Plasma task manager widget, making controls visible even at narrow task width settings.

  • Discover improvements: The Plasma Discover app manager has been optimized to display information about large offline updates more quickly. We also fixed a bug that could previously cause Discover to crash on startup.

  • Portals System Integration: Improved support for dragging and dropping files and folders from the desktop into sandboxed applications (such as Flatpak or Snap), which now works as expected.

  • Kickoff Menu Updates: The Plasma Kickoff app menu has been updated to correctly display items from the app category when scrolling.

  • Improvements for Plasma X11 and Wayland session: X11 adds the ability to close a desktop grid page using the same key used to open it. For Wayland users, the color selection dialog has been improved to display colors correctly when applying an ICC profile.

  • Bug Fixes and Memory Leaks: Fixed crashes in the Spectacle utility and memory leaks in the Plasma networks widget, and resolved an issue that could prevent the Task Manager context menu from opening when using a two-finger gesture on the touchpad on some laptops.

The KDE Plasma 6.0.4 update not only fixes previous bugs, but also brings significant improvements to the user interface and overall functionality of the system.
