Electronic Arts announced in a report to investors that The Sims series, which consists of four main games and several offshoots, has sold $5 billion worth of products over the course of nearly two decades.
Β«The Sims 4 also continues to be an incredible long-term service with a growing audience,β said CEO Andrew Wilson. The monthly average player count has risen over 40% year-on-year in The Sims 4, and this has propelled The Sims franchise to reach $5 billion in its lifetime. The Sims continues to be one of the great video game franchises and we have plans to bring new experiences to our amazing players for a long time to come."
Wilson did not reveal details of long-term support, although it was later mentioned in a report that The Sims 4 would receive some Christmas content this year. This fits in with the broader strategy of Electronic Arts, in which the company will focus on long-term support for their games in the coming years.
Support for The Sims will be expressed in other ways - for example, Electronic Arts will release the game on Steam.
