Apple Glass will be able to offer vision correction, but at an additional cost

So, the following details are reported:

  • the device will go on the market under the name Apple Glass;
  • prices will start at $499 with the option to purchase prescription lenses for an additional fee;
  • both lenses will have displays that can be interacted with using gestures;
  • the glasses will not be independent and are designed to work in conjunction with the iPhone, similar to the first Apple Watch;
  • an early prototype had LiDAR and wireless charging;
  • Apple initially planned to present the glasses at its fall event with the launch of the iPhone 2020 under the famous phrase “One More Thing” uttered by Steve Jobs at presentations - due to the pandemic, the announcement had to be pushed back to March 2021;
  • Apple is aiming to launch the device in late 2021 or early 2022.

There are also rumors that Apple is working on a more traditional AR/VR headset that is reminiscent of Facebook's Oculus Quest, with previous rumors suggesting the headset would release before the glasses arrive. Earlier this year, a leaked build of iOS 14 revealed a new app codenamed Gobi, which Apple appears to be using to test new augmented reality devices.

Mr Prosser also said that this year's iPhone launch could take place in October rather than the usual September due to the global health crisis. Numerous analysts, including Ming-Chi Kuo and Jeff Pu, have also indicated that the most advanced model, the 6,7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max, may not be available until October due to disruptions in supply chains.
