The Odnoklassniki social network announced the introduction of a new way to add friends: now you can do this operation from a photo.
It is noted that the basis of the new system is a neural network. It is alleged that such a function was first implemented in a social network available on the Russian market.
βNow, to add a new friend on social networks, you just need to take a picture of him. At the same time, the privacy of users is reliably protected: the profile and name of a friend will be disclosed only after confirmation of the application on his part, βnote Odnoklassniki.
The system uses the social network's own developments for face recognition in user photos. In particular, machine vision algorithms are used.
The new feature allows you to find friends in a fraction of a second with over 99% accuracy. You can find a friend even if only old photos are uploaded in his profile in OK: the technology extrapolates the face of a potential friend to the moment the picture was taken in the application. In the event that the user is not found on the social network, the initiator of the friendship will receive a notification.
βWith the help of our own face recognition technologies in user photos, we have been able to offer a completely new way to create friendship, ensuring the privacy and convenience of using OK services. We can almost unmistakably identify a new friend from a photo and at the same time keep his data confidential until the friendship is accepted, βthe social network notes.
