Office workers and gamers face occupational milkmaid disease

Tunnel syndrome, previously considered an occupational disease of milkmaids, also threatens all those who spend several hours a day at the computer, neurologist Yuri Andrusov said in an interview with Sputnik radio.

This condition is also called carpal tunnel syndrome. “Tunnel syndrome used to be considered an occupational disease of milkmaids, since constant stress on the hand causes thickening of the ligaments and tendons, which in turn put pressure on the nerve. Now in the position of the hand, when we hold the mouse, the nerve itself is exposed to pressure from the ligaments. This is how we ourselves provoke tunnel syndrome,” says the doctor.

To prevent the disease, Andrusov suggests using an orthopedic computer mouse pad or an orthopedic keyboard. “The point is that the hand rests on the roller. At this time, she is in a horizontal position, and there is no pressure on the nerves,” the doctor explained.

He also advises not to hesitate to consult a doctor if you experience pain in your hands. If you ignore these symptoms, you will eventually have to undergo surgery.
