According to rumors, the Mate 30 smartphones will use the latest Kirin 985 chipset, which will be released in the third quarter of this year. The Kirin 985 could be the first SoC built on a 7nm process using extreme ultraviolet lithography (EUV) technology, enabling a 20% increase in transistor density. Compared to the Kirin 980 used in the Mate 20 and P30 series smartphones, the 985 chip will be clocked higher for higher performance, although it will use roughly the same CPU and GPU architecture. It is expected that in 2019 the Kirin 985 chip will receive a built-in 5G modem to work in fifth-generation networks.

Information about the characteristics of the Mate 30 is extremely scarce. In particular, it is assumed that the smartphone will be equipped with a main camera with five optical modules.

In addition, in an interview with Digital Trends, Huawei Devices CEO Richard Yu acknowledged that the company is "considering" 5G connectivity to the "next Mate series."
