Volocopters have been taking to the skies since 2011. Experimental flights of the VoloCity air taxi were carried out in Singapore, Helsinki and Dubai. Volocopter is licensed by European regulators for design and flying activities, making it a likely candidate to run an air taxi service on a full-time basis.

In preparation for the 2024 Olympics, a number of French organizations have announced a competition for innovative solutions, including transport. The results of the competition have not yet been announced, but Volocopter passes it outside of the qualifying events. It has already been decided that by the middle of next year, a test site will be created on the basis of the Pontoise Cormeil - Aviasion Generale airport in the suburbs of Paris for practicing Volocopter air taxi maintenance techniques and performing experimental flights.

The current VoloCity air taxi prototype is capable of flying 35 km at a maximum speed of 110 km/h on a fully charged battery. The height of the machine is 2,5 m. The frame on the roof of the cabin has a diameter of 9,3 m. There are 18 electric motors on the frame, which, in the event of a failure of some of them, promise a redundancy of about 30%. The payload weight of the device reaches 450 kg.
