OpenIndiana is a community project that is an extension of the OpenSolaris project.
The OpenIndiana Hipster 2020.04 release contains the following new features:
- All OI-specific applications have been ported from Python 2.7 to 3.5, including the Caiman installer (slim_source).
- Installation images now do not include Python 2.7, but some programs may still depend on it.
- GCC7 is now used as the main system compiler, versions 8.4 and 9.3 are also available
- Libreoffice 6.4 added.
- PKG now uses rapidjson instead of simplejson, which has reduced memory consumption when working with large package directories.
- Many packages have been updated.
