OpenJDK Moves to Git and GitHub

The OpenJDK project, which develops a reference implementation of the Java language, is working by of migration from Mercurial version control to Git and a collaborative development platform GitHub. The transition is scheduled to be completed in September this year, ahead of the release JDK 15to lead the development JDK 16 already on the new platform.

The migration is expected to improve the performance of repository operations, increase storage efficiency, ensure that changes throughout the history of the project are available in the repository, improve code review support, and enable APIs to automate workflows. In addition, the use of Git and GitHub will make the project more attractive to beginners and developers who are used to Git.

Formerly part of the OpenJDK subprojects, including Loom, Valhalla ΠΈ JMC, have already successfully moved development to GitHub. The JDK repository is also already submitted on GitHub, but currently works in read-only mirror mode.
