AV Linux 2021.05.22, a distribution for creating audio and video content, has been published

The distribution kit AV Linux MX Edition 2021.05.22 is presented, containing a selection of applications for creating/processing multimedia content. The distribution is based on the MX Linux package base, using the Debian repositories with improvements from the antiX project and its own applications that make it easy to configure and install software. AV Linux also uses the KXStudio repositories with a collection of audio processing applications and self-built additional packages (Polyphone, Shuriken, Simple Screen Recorder, etc.). The distribution can function in Live mode and is available for the i386 (3.2 GB) and x86_64 (3.7 GB) architectures.

The Linux kernel comes with a set of RT patches to increase system responsiveness during audio processing work. The user environment is based on Xfce4 with the OpenBox window manager instead of xfwm. The package includes Ardour, ArdourVST, Harrison, Mixbus sound editors, Blender 3D design system, Cinelerra, Openshot, LiVES video editors and tools for converting multimedia file formats. The JACK Audio Connection Kit is offered for switching audio devices (using JACK1/Qjackctl, not JACK2/Cadence). The distribution comes with a detailed illustrated manual (PDF, 72 pages)

In the new release:

  • The Xfce environment uses the Openbox window manager by default. Removed xfwm and xfdesktop.
  • The login manager has been replaced with Slim.
  • The Nitrogen application is used to display the desktop wallpaper.
  • The Linux kernel package from the Liquorix project has been switched to the Debian Buster branch.
  • Removed deprecated OBS libfaudio repository.
  • Revised user manual.
  • Improved AVL-MXE Assistant, which is optimized to save screen space.
  • Returned a more traditional panel design (instead of a dock-panel).
  • Added sound plugins Drops and MZuther.
  • Applications have been updated, including SFizz 1.0, Ardor 6.7, Reaper 6.28 (supporting LV2 plugins), Harrison Mixbus demo 7.0.150, ACM Plugin demo 3.0.0.
