The Fedora Asahi Remix 39 distribution kit has been introduced, designed for installation on Mac computers equipped with ARM chips developed by Apple. Fedora Asahi Remix 39 is based on the Fedora Linux 39 package base and is equipped with the Calamares installer. This is the first release published since the Asahi project migrated from Arch to Fedora. Fedora Asahi Remix is being developed by the Fedora Asahi SIG and the transition will help the Asahi Linux team focus on hardware reverse engineering without spending resources on distro support.
The release provides the ability to work on Apple MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, Mac Mini, Mac Studio and iMac systems equipped with M1 and M2 chips. KDE Plasma is supplied as the main user environment. An optional GNOME-based version is available. Both editions use Wayland, and the XWayland DDX server is used to run X11 applications. Graphics drivers support OpenGL 3.3 and OpenGL ES 3.1. The sound subsystem of Apple computers is fully supported.
