The LineageOS 23 mobile platform release, based on the code base, has been released. Android 16. LineageOS 23 has reached parity in functionality and stability with LineageOS 22 and is considered ready for the first release. Builds have been prepared for 104 device models (28 fewer than LineageOS 22). LineageOS can also be run in an emulator. Android Emulator, in QEMU and in the environment Android Studio. Additionally, the ability to build in mode is provided Android TV and Android Automotive.
In addition to the release of LineageOS 23, an update to the LineageOS 22.2 branch has been released, with additional builds for 39 devices. LineageOS 20 has also been updated, bringing vulnerability fixes. All supported devices now come with their own Lineage Recovery by default, eliminating the need for a dedicated recovery partition.
Issue Android 16 supports working with kernels Linux, starting with the 5.4 branch, but the necessary changes have been ported by LineageOS developers for kernels up to version 4.14. The necessary components have not yet been ported to kernels 4.4 and 4.9, which has led to a loss of compatibility with devices based on Qualcomm MSM8998/MSM8996, Qualcomm MSM8953, and Qualcomm SDM845 SoCs. However, porting is potentially possible and depends on the availability of enthusiasts willing to undertake this work. For owners of devices for which only older kernels are available Linux, it is recommended to use the LineageOS 22.2 update, for which kernels 4.4 and 4.9 are available.
Compared to LineageOS 22, besides the improvements specific to Android 16, the following changes are proposed:
