The W3C has published the third edition of the PNG image format specification, which has received the status of a recommended standard. The new version is fully backward compatible with the second edition of the PNG specification, released in 2003, and includes additional features such as support for high dynamic range (HDR), animated images (APNG), EXIF metadata integration, and CICP (Coding-Independent Code Points) properties for defining color spaces.
