The AV Linux MX 21.2 distribution is available, containing a selection of applications for creating/processing multimedia content. The distribution is built from source using the tools used to build MX Linux, and additional self-built packages (Polyphone, Shuriken, Simple Screen Recorder, etc.). AV Linux can run in Live mode and is available for x86_64 architecture (3.9 GB).

The user environment is based on Xfce4. The package includes Ardour, ArdourVST, Harrison, Mixbus sound editors, Blender 3D design system, Cinelerra, Openshot, LiVES video editors and tools for converting multimedia file formats. The JACK Audio Connection Kit is offered for switching audio devices (using JACK1/Qjackctl, not JACK2/Cadence). The distribution comes with a detailed illustrated manual (PDF, 72 pages)

In the new version:

  • The OpenBox window manager has been replaced with xfwm, the Nitrogen desktop wallpaper manager with xfdesktop, and the SLiM login manager with lightDM.
  • Build generation for 32-bit x86 systems has been discontinued.
  • The Linux kernel has been updated to version 6.0 with Liquorix patches.

At the same time, the release of the MXDE-EFL 21.2 build, based on the developments of MX Linux and delivered with a desktop based on the Enlightenment environment, was formed. A project developed by the developers of AV Linux and positioned as an assembly experimenting with the transfer of AV Linux from the Xfce desktop to Enlightenment. The assembly contains basic AV Linux optimizations and settings, but differs in a smaller set of specialized applications. The size of the live image is 3.8 GB.

In the new version:

  • The Linux kernel has been updated to version 6.0 with Liquorix patches.
  • The user environment has been updated to Enlightenment 0.25.4.
  • Disabled Procstats module, which has stability issues.
  • Changes have been made to the theme.
  • Added a panel with Shelf multimedia applications.
  • Ported AV Linux MX distribution-specific utilities.

Additionally, we can note the release of the distribution kit Daphile 22.12, based on Gentoo Linux and designed to create a system for storing and playing a music collection. To ensure maximum sound quality, it is supported to connect a Daphile computer to analog amplifiers via USB D/A converters, among other things, to create multi-zone audio systems. The distribution can also work as a sound server, network storage (NAS, Network-Attached Storage) and wireless access point. Supports playback from internal drives, network streaming services and external USB drives. Management is carried out through a specially created web-interface. There are three builds available: x86_64 (278 MB), i486 (279 MB), and x86_64 with real-time components (279 MB).

In the new version:

  • Metadata editor added to CD Ripper.
  • Added the ability to change sound device settings without rebooting.
  • Added support for backing up and restoring distribution settings.
  • Added the Now Playing screen, accessible through the Audio Player tab or via the link http://address/nowplaying.html
  • Updated Linux kernel versions 5.15.83-rt54, LMS 8.3 and Perl 5.34. GCC 11.3 is used for the build.
