Linux From Scratch 10 and Beyond Linux From Scratch 10 published

Presented new editions of manuals Linux From Scratch 10 (LFS) and Beyond Linux From Scratch 10 (BLFS), as well as the LFS and BLFS editions with the systemd system manager. Linux From Scratch provides instructions for building a basic Linux system from scratch using only the source code for the required software. Beyond Linux From Scratch supplements the LFS instructions with information on building and configuring about 1000 software packages, covering applications ranging from databases and server systems to graphical shells and media players.

On Linux From Scratch 10 implemented migration to Glibc 2.32, GCC 10.2.0, SysVinit 2.97 and Systemd 246. Updated 35 packages, including Linux kernel 5.8.3, binutils 2.35, Bison 3.7.1, Coreutils 8.32, E2fsprogs 1.45.6, Gawk 5.1.0, IPRoute2 5.8.0 .0.55.0, Meson 1.1.1, Openssl 5.32.0g, Perl 3.8.5, Python 2.36, Util-Linux 8.2.1361 and Vim XNUMX. Errors in boot scripts have been fixed, editorial work has been done in explanatory materials throughout the book.

About 10 programs have been updated in Beyond Linux From Scratch 800, including GNOME 3.36, KDE Plasma 5.18, KDE Applications 20.08, LibreOffice 7, Cups 2.3.3,
FFmpeg 4.3.1, GIMP 2.10.20, Thunderbird 78.1.1, Firefox 78.2.0,
SeaMonkey 2.53.3 etc.

In addition to LFS and BLFS, the project has previously produced several additional books:

  • Β«LFS TipsΒ» - a selection of additional tips describing alternative solutions for the steps described in LFS and BLFS;
  • Β«LFS LiveCD"- a project to prepare a LiveCD. Currently not being developed.
