Linux From Scratch 11.2 and Beyond Linux From Scratch 11.2 published

New editions of the Linux From Scratch 11.2 (LFS) and Beyond Linux From Scratch 11.2 (BLFS) manuals, as well as the LFS and BLFS editions with the systemd system manager, have been introduced. Linux From Scratch provides instructions for building a basic Linux system from scratch using only the source code for the required software. Beyond Linux From Scratch completes the LFS instructions with information on building and configuring nearly 1000 software packages covering applications ranging from databases and server systems to graphical shells and media players.

Linux From Scratch 11.2 switched to glibc 2.36, gcc 12.2.0, Linux kernel 5.19.2, binutils 2.39, Coreutils 9.1, Openssl 3.0.5, Perl 5.36.0, Python 3.10.6, SysVinit 3.04, Systemd 251. Fixed errors in boot scripts, editorial work was done in explanatory materials throughout the book.

About 11.2 programs have been updated in Beyond Linux From Scratch 1000, including GNOME 42, KDE Plasma 5.25, KDE Gears 22.08, LibreOffice 7.4, Fmpeg 5.1, GIMP 2.10.32, Inkscape 1.2.1, Thunderbird 102.2.0, Firefox 102.2.0, SeaMonkey 2.53.13, IceWM 2.9.9, Mesa 22.1.7, GTK 4.6.7, MariaDB 10.6.9, PostgreSQL 14.5, Postfix 3.7.2, BIND 9.18.6, etc.

In addition to LFS and BLFS, the project has previously produced several additional books:

  • "Automated Linux From Scratch" - a framework for automating the assembly of an LFS system and package management;
  • "Cross Linux From Scratch" - description of the cross-platform assembly of the LFS system, supported architectures: x86, x86_64, sparc, mips, PowerPC, alpha, hppa, arm;
  • "Hardened Linux From Scratch" - instructions for improving the security of LFS, applying additional patches and restrictions;
  • "LFS Hints" is a collection of additional tips describing alternative solutions for the steps described in LFS and BLFS.
