Autumn update of ALT p10 starter kits

The second edition of the starter kits on the Tenth Platform Alt has been published. These images are suitable for getting started with the stable repository for those advanced users who prefer to define the list of application packages and customize the system (even creating their own derivatives) on their own. As composite works, they are distributed under the terms of the GPLv2+ license. Options include a base system and one of the desktop environments or a set of specialized applications.

Builds prepared for i586, x86_64, aarch64 and http://nightly.altlinux.org/p10-armh/release/ architectures. Also builds Engineering variants on p10 (live/install image with engineering software; installer added to enable more accurate selection of required additional packages) and cnc-rt (live with real-time kernel and LinuxCNC software CNC) for x86_64, including realtime tests.

Summer edition changes:

  • Linux kernel std-def 5.10.62 and un-def 5.13.14, in cnc-rt — kernel-image-rt 5.10.52;
  • make-initrd 2.22.0, xorg-server 1.20.13, Mesa 21.1.5 with fixes in some tricky situations;
  • Firefox ESR 78.13.0;
  • NetworkManager 1.32.10;
  • KDE KF5/Plasma/SC: 5.85.0 / 5.22.4 / 21.0.4;
  • fixed formatting in xfs in installer;
  • improved support for Baikal-M processors in aarch64 iso (patches from p10 kernels moved to std-def and un-def kernels for p9);
  • aarch64 ISOs have become smaller due to the free space provided in them;
  • added GRUB menu "Network installation", which includes boot methods nfs, ftp, http, cifs (for ftp and http at the moment you have to specify ramdisk_size in kilobytes, sufficient to accommodate the squashfs image of the second stage).

Known Issues:

  • enlightenment does not respond to input devices when starting a wayland session via lightdm-gtk-greeter (ALT bug 40244).

Torrents:

  • i586, x86_64;
  • aarch64.

The images are built using mkimage-profiles 1.4.17+ with the p10-20210912 tag; The ISOs include a build profile archive (.disk/profile.tgz) for building custom derivatives (see also the builder variant and the mkimage-profiles package in it).

Builds for aarch64 and armh contain rootfs archives and qemu images in addition to ISO images; for them, installation instructions and instructions for launching qemu are available.

Official distributions of OS Alt on the Tenth platform are expected during the fall.
