Founder of Huawei: the company does not want to isolate itself and is open to cooperation

Recently, the founder of Huawei, Ren Zhengfei, held a press conference for representatives of the Chinese media, during which, among other things, he commented on the latest developments related to the imposition of sanctions by the United States. We already briefly wrote about it, but now more details have come to light.

So, Ren Zhengfei said that Huawei was ready for US sanctions. He said, “The most important thing for us is how to do our job. What the US government does, we cannot control. We will certainly continue to serve our customers, we have huge mass production capabilities. Growth may slow down, but not as much as some suggest. It will not come to negative growth. And the industry will not suffer from this.”

The founder of Huawei expressed his gratitude to American companies for helping to develop over the past 30 years. He also stressed that US sanctions would only affect Huawei's "low-tech" products and that cutting-edge areas, including 5G, would not be heavily impacted. Ren Zhengfei also believes that in the field of 5G, Huawei is three years ahead of everyone else. "The American government underestimates our strength", He said.

Ren Zhengfei went on to stress that Huawei will always need US-made chips. He noted that US companies are now applying for a license with the US Bureau of Industry and Security. If licenses are granted, then Huawei will continue to buy their chips and / or sell them its own (still, bilateral relations are more useful for overall development). If supplies end up blocked, then nothing terrible will happen, since Huawei will be able to produce all high-tech semiconductors on its own.

Ren Zhengfei explained that in "peaceful" time, Huawei always tried to buy half of the chips in the United States, and produce the other half on its own. Despite the fact that its own chips are cheaper to manufacture, Huawei still purchased more expensive American semiconductors, as Huawei should not be removed from the rest of the world, he said. On the contrary, Huawei advocates integration.

“Our friendship with American companies has been formed over several decades, and it cannot be torn apart like a piece of paper. Right now the situation is unclear, but we can wait. If licenses are issued to American companies, we will continue normal trade relations and jointly build the information society. In this case, we do not want to isolate ourselves from others.”

According to Ren Zhengfei, the US should not attack Huawei just because of its leadership in fifth-generation networks. 5G is not an atomic bomb, but a technology designed to serve the benefit of society. Fifth generation networks have a very wide channel and high data transfer speed, and they should change the world in a sense, and in many different areas.

The founder of Huawei also spoke about public sentiment in China caused by the actions of the United States. He noted: “It cannot be assumed that if someone buys Huawei, then he is a patriot, and someone who does not buy is not a patriot. Huawei is a product. Like it - buy it, don't like it - don't buy it. You don't have to tie it to politics. In no case should you incite nationalist sentiments. He added: “My kids love Apple, for example. It has a good ecosystem. We can’t just say that loving Huawei is necessarily loving Huawei phones.”

Commenting arrest Ren Zhengfei remarked to his daughter Meng Wanzhou in Canada, “They wanted to break my will with this, but my daughter informed me that she was already mentally prepared to stay there for a long time. She has an optimistic attitude. It made me feel much better.” The founder of Huawei also noted that personal motives should not affect business, and he tries to follow this rule.

And at the end, Ren Zhengfei noted that there are no significant differences between Chinese and foreign employees at Huawei. Foreign employees also work for clients, just like Chinese ones. Therefore, everyone has the same values.
