Huawei founder believes the company can survive without the US

Chinese tech giant Huawei continues to be on the so-called US blacklist, making it difficult to do business with US companies. However, Huawei founder Ren Zhengfei considers US sanctions ineffective and notes that the company will be able to survive without the United States.

Huawei founder believes the company can survive without the US

“We feel good without the US. US-China trade talks are not what I'm interested in. We do not expect the US to remove Huawei from the list of entities US companies cannot work with. They might as well keep us there forever, because we will be fine without the United States,” said Mr. Zhengfei. He also noted that Huawei is not the object of a trade war, as the company has little to no business relationships in the US.

It is worth noting that in 2018, Huawei bought a total of $11 billion worth of goods from American companies. In addition to software solutions from Alphabet and Microsoft, the Chinese company purchased a large number of chips from different manufacturers. This year, Huawei is forced to look for alternative suppliers that should replace US companies in the future. In addition, the company continues to work on its own chips and software.

It is noteworthy that Huawei continues to buy products from US companies, since in many cases goods made outside the US are not subject to sanctions. This allowed several US companies, including Intel and Qualcomm, to resume business relationships with Huawei.

Despite pressure from the US, Huawei continues to win 5G contracts around the world, and smartphone sales are growing, largely due to increased shipments to the domestic market.
