Huawei founder opposes Chinese retaliatory sanctions against US companies

Ren Zhengfei, founder and CEO of Chinese telecommunications company Huawei, has spoken out against the Chinese government's possible retaliatory bans after the US blacklisted the manufacturer. In an interview with Bloomberg, he expressed hope that China would not impose retaliatory bans, and also said that he would be the first to oppose restrictions on US companies if it came to that.

Huawei founder opposes Chinese retaliatory sanctions against US companies

Huawei's notoriety in the United States continues to grow, and US specialized agencies continue to argue that the Chinese manufacturer poses a threat to national security and consumers should stop buying the company's products. Reports of intellectual property theft and industrial espionage do not improve the reputation, despite the fact that the US authorities have not presented any convincing evidence of this. President Trump recently said his administration's move on Huawei was more of a move in trade talks with China than a real response to a national security threat.

Under such circumstances, Huawei's CEO could have asked the Chinese government to protect the company. This move would seem quite logical, but Mr. Zhengfei has a different opinion. He compares Huawei's current position to flying a plane with a hole in its airframe. The situation is difficult, but the plane continues to operate, which means the company needs to make appropriate adjustments to help cope with the crisis.
