Mobile web browser developers Kiwiwith over a million installations for android platform, announced the about the full opening of all project sources. Code open under the BSD license.

Kiwi is based on the Chromium codebase, can run on devices running Android 4.1 (for comparison, Firefox Preview requires Android 5) and is notable for the following features:

  • The ability to install add-ons from the Chrome Webstore and use them on a mobile device;
  • Customizable night mode optimized for AMOLED screens;
  • Mode for placing the address bar at the bottom of the screen;
  • Additional rendering speed optimizations such as partial page rasterization;
  • Built-in engine for blocking ads and pop-up notifications. Protection against running malicious JavaScript code that performs cryptocurrency mining;
  • Ability to use Facebook Web Messenger via m.facebook.com without having to install the Facebook mobile app;
  • Privacy mode that does not save cookies, is not reflected in the history of visits, does not settle in the browser cache and blocks the creation of screenshots;
  • Customizable start page, where you can place arbitrary site shortcuts;
  • Ability to disable support for AMP technology (Accelerated Mobile Pages);
  • Settings to block notifications and code to track visitors.
