The Debian 11 "Bullseye" package database will be frozen next spring

The distribution developers have published the timing of the planned freezing of the eleventh version of the distribution Debian 11 "Bullseye". The release date for the stable version is set to mid 2021.

Sample freezing plan:

  • January 12 2021 - the first stage, during which package updates will be stopped, requiring changes to the dependencies of other packages, leading to temporary removal of packages from the test branch. It will also stop updating packages included in build-essential
  • February 12 2021 — stage of “soft” freezing, during which the addition of new packages will be closed
  • March 12 2021 — the stage of “hard” freezing, during which the transfer of packages from unstable to testing will be completely stopped and the testing stage will begin before release.
