Pale Moon 28.7.0

A new significant version of Pale Moon is available - a browser that was once an optimized build of Mozilla Firefox, but over time has turned into a fairly independent project, no longer compatible with the original in many ways.

This update includes a partial overhaul of the JavaScript engine, as well as the implementation of a number of changes in it that may affect the performance of sites. These changes implement versions of the JavaScript specifications (which are also implemented in other browsers) that may not be backward compatible with the previous behavior.

Added by:

  • Support for Matroska containers and H264-based formats;
  • AAC audio support for Matroska and WebM;
  • Ability to use spaces in the package name on Mac and in the application name (relevant to rebranding);
  • Exception to the domain restriction rule for font files;
  • Support for native file selection for XDG on Linux.

Removed:

  • Information about e10s in about:troubleshooting;
  • WebIDE developer utility;
  • Ability to disable the status line at compile time;
  • Buttons "Delete this page" and "Forget about this site" in live bookmarks (they do not make sense in feeds);
  • A special version of the User Agent for "Financial Times", which now independently handles Pale Moon.

Updated:

  • Default bookmark icons;
  • SQLite library up to version 3.29.0.

Other changes:

  • Significant changes to the JavaScript parser that implement ES6 conversion to string representation of classes according to ES2018, as well as rest/spread options for object literals;
  • The behavior of the inner window when changing the domain is brought into line with the behavior of other browsers;
  • Improved performance of working with frame properties;
  • Faster processing of HTML5 strings;
  • Improved image loading speed;
  • From now on, SVG images are always aligned pixel by pixel to display them clearly;
  • Bug fixes.
