Pamac 9.0 is a new branch of the package manager for Manjaro Linux

The Manjaro community has rolled out a new major version of the Pamac package manager, developed specifically for this distribution. Pamac includes the libpamac library for working with the main repositories, AUR and local packages, console utilities with "human syntax" like pamac install and pamac update, a main Gtk frontend and an additional Qt frontend, which, however, is not yet fully ported. on Pamac API version 9.

In the new Pamac version:

  • a new asynchronous API that doesn't block the interface for operations like syncing repositories;
  • automatic cleaning of the assembly directory of AUR packages after the end of all operations;
  • Fixed problems with parallel downloads of packages, due to which the download sometimes could not start;
  • pamac-installer console utility for installing single packages from repositories, AUR or local sources no longer removes orphan packages by default;
  • the pamac console utility warns about invalid arguments;
  • Gtk frontend got a redesigned interface (shown in the screenshot);
  • Finally, the biggest new feature is full Snap support, to activate which you need to install the pamac-snap-plugin package, run the systemctl start snapd service, and enable Snap in the Pamac settings in the same way that AUR support is enabled.
