Patriot Memory has unveiled a new series of RAM modules called Viper Steel DDR4 SODIMM under its consumer brand Viper Gaming. The novelties, as you might guess by the name, are made in the SO-DIMM form factor and are designed for use in gaming laptops and high-performance compact systems.
The manufacturer decided not to release new items in sets, but added only single 8 and 16 GB SO-DIMM memory modules to the Viper Steel series. In both cases, modules with effective clock speeds of 2400, 2666 and 3000 MHz will be available. Delays for new products are CL15, CL18 and CL18, respectively, regardless of volume. There is support for Intel XMP 2.0 profiles.
The manufacturer positions its new products as a solution primarily for compact but productive systems. It is noted that some Mini-ITX motherboards are equipped with just SO-DIMM slots, and not full-size UDIMMs at all, so it can be very difficult to find productive memory for them. But Viper Steel SO-DIMMs should make that task easier.
Also, new items are suitable for gaming laptops, some of which have the ability to use XMP 2.0 profiles and set the memory frequency above the nominal. It is also worth noting that Viper Steel is compatible not only with Intel processors, but also suitable for platforms based on AMD processors. And, finally, the manufacturer notes the use of selected memory chips, which are not afraid of working at high temperatures, because the new items are not equipped with heatsinks.
Viper Steel DDR4 SODIMM memory modules will go on sale in the near future, however, it has not yet been specified how much they will cost. The manufacturer provides a lifetime warranty on its products.
