“Changing shoes on the go”: after the announcement of the Galaxy Note 10, Samsung deletes a video with a long-standing Apple trolling

Samsung has long been not shy about trolling its main competitor in the face of Apple to advertise its own smartphones, but, as often happens, things change over time and the old jokes no longer seem funny. With the release of the Galaxy Note 10, the South Korean firm has actually repeated that feature of the iPhone that it once actively ridiculed, and now the company's marketers are actively removing the old video about it from official channels.

Samsung unveiled the new Galaxy Note 10 yesterday, and what many have noticed is that the phone, like most modern models, is not equipped with a 3,5mm headphone jack.

"It's becoming increasingly clear that Samsung, one of the last mainstays of the standard 3,5mm headphone jack, is starting to move away from the old industry standard," said Antonio Villas-Boas of Business Insider.

That's a strong enough move for a company that so poignantly satirized Apple in 2016 when the latter launched the iPhone 7 by ditching the traditional headphone jack.

Samsung released a memorable promotional video in November 2016 called "Growing Up" that attempted to show how iPhone users are getting more and more frustrated with their phone's limitations with each new model. In the end, the protagonist of the video gives up and buys a new Samsung Galaxy.

In one of the episodes, he inspects with obvious desperation the adapter cable, which allows iPhone users to turn the Lightning connector into a mini-jack familiar to headphones.

And now, in 2019, Note 10 owners may need a similar adapter to use their favorite wired headphones with their device. As for the "Growing Up" video, it has quietly disappeared from Samsung's main YouTube channels.

Business Insider found that the ad had been removed from the Samsung Mobile USA page, which has nearly 1,8 million subscribers, and from Samsung's main channel, which has 3,8 million subscribers. You can also check to see if this video was posted on the Samsung Mobile USA channel most recently via Internet Archive Way Back Machine.

The sequel to the "Growing Up" video released in May 2018 has also disappeared from Samsung's YouTube channels, meaning that news articles written about them when they were released (such as this article on The Verge), there are now non-working embeds from YouTube.

However, Samsung has yet to completely remove "Growing Up" from its official channels. The video is still available on some regional channels. For example, you can still watch it on the Samsung Malaysia channel. However, even if it is soon removed there too, finding a copy on Google will not be difficult.
