The first test release of the mobile platform Tizen 5.5

Submitted by first test (milestone) release of the mobile platform Tizen 5.5. The release is aimed at introducing developers to the new capabilities of the platform. Code supplied under GPLv2, Apache 2.0 and BSD licenses. Assemblies formed for emulator, Raspberry Pi 3, odroid u3, odroid x u3, artik 710/530/533 boards and various mobile platforms based on armv7l and arm64 architectures.

The project is being developed under the auspices of the Linux Foundation, recently mainly by Samsung. The platform continues the development of the MeeGo and LiMO projects, and is distinguished by providing the ability to use Web API and web technologies (HTML5/JavaScript/CSS) to create mobile applications. The graphical environment is built on the basis of the Wayland protocol and the developments of the Enlightenment project; Systemd is used to manage services.

Features Tizen 5.5 M1:

  • Added built-in speech recognition engine;
  • The Multi-assistant framework has been added, making it possible to simultaneously use various voice assistants;
  • Support for the .NET Wearable UI extension (Tizen.Wearable.CircularUI) 1.2.0 has been added to the toolkit for developing applications on the .NET platform;

  • Added support for high resolution screens (4K/8K);
  • Implemented a framework for updating the Web Engine browser engine;
  • Added JavaScript framework WRTjs;
  • It is possible to load Smack access control rules directly from the security manager database. Support for placing rules in files has been discontinued;
  • Improved memory management of long-running processes;
  • New types of notifications have been implemented for various types of information;
  • Added experimental frameworks Neural Network Runtime and Neural Network Streamer for using machine learning methods in applications;
  • A property has been added to the DALi subsystem (3D UI Toolkit) to control the behavior of the rendering system and support for simultaneous rendering of several windows;
  • EFL (Enlightenment Foundation Library) libraries have been updated to version 1.22. Mesa package has been updated to release 19.0.0. Wayland has been updated to version 1.16.0. The Wayland extension tizen_launch_appinfo has been implemented, with the help of which the display server can receive information about the application, such as the PID of the process. Updated support for the Vulkan graphics API.
