The first launch in 2019 from Vostochny is scheduled for the end of June

The first and, quite possibly, the only launch this year from the Vostochny cosmodrome will be carried out exactly in three months. This is reported by the RIA Novosti online publication, citing information received from the press service of Roscosmos.

So far, only four launches have been made from Vostochny. They took place on April 28, 2016, November 28, 2017, and on February 1 and December 27, 2018. Moreover, the launch in 2017 turned into an accident: then, due to the failure of the upper stage, the Meteor-M satellite No. 2-1 and 18 small devices were lost.

As part of the upcoming fifth launch from Vostochny, the Meteor-M No. 2-2 satellite for remote sensing of the Earth is to be launched into orbit. It is designed to obtain global and local images of cloudiness, the surface of our planet, ice and snow cover, collect data to determine the temperature of the sea surface and perform other tasks.

β€œThe launch date of the Meteor is June 27 from Vostochny,” Roscosmos said. More than 40 small spacecraft will act as a passing load.

At the end of last year, it was reported that the launch of the Meteor-M No. 2-2 satellite would most likely be the only launch campaign of the Vostochny Cosmodrome in 2019.
