Manned launches from Vostochny will be possible within a year and a half

The head of Roscosmos, Dmitry Rogozin, spoke about the possibility of launching ships from the Vostochny cosmodrome under the program of the International Space Station (ISS).

As we recently reported, a route for launches of Soyuz-2 carrier rockets has been opened on Vostochny, which will allow launching manned and cargo spacecraft into the ISS orbit. However, it is too early to talk about real launches.

“We can provide launches of cargo ships [from Vostochny] within two to three months. As for the crews, this work will take me 1,5 years from the decision and about 6,5 billion rubles, ”TASS quotes Mr. Rogozin as saying.

The fact is that in order to ensure launches of manned vehicles from Vostochny, a number of additional works will have to be carried out. In particular, it is necessary to adapt the service tower at the launch site of the Soyuz-2 rocket.

In addition, it will be necessary to organize a new scheme for rescuing the ship in the event of an accident during launch. We are talking about the opening of areas for splashdown of the apparatus in the Pacific Ocean, as well as the creation of specialized tools for the operational detection of the place of splashdown of the ship.

It should be noted that at present, Russian ships are sent to the International Space Station from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.
