The team behind PipeWire, a modern multimedia framework for audio and video processing, has announced the release of version 1.4.0. This release includes support for the RISC-V architecture, expanded MIDI 2.0 capabilities, a new API for controlling JACK, and many other innovations.
Major changes:
- Added support for RISC-V architecture.
- Added experimental support for MIDI 2.0, a new standard for music interfaces that offers enhanced capabilities over MIDI 1.0. This includes support for more channels, improved resolution, and a more flexible data management system.
- New API for controlling JACK, making it easier to integrate PipeWire with applications that use the JACK Audio Connection Kit.
- Improved support for video processing, including working with H.264 and H.265 formats.
- Significant work has been done to optimize performance and improve stability. This includes fixing numerous bugs, improving memory management, and reducing latency when processing audio and video.
- New plugins and modules have been added that extend the functionality of the framework. For example, support for Bluetooth devices has been improved and new features for working with PulseAudio have been added.
- New tools and APIs have been added for developers to make it easier to build PipeWire-based applications. This includes improved documentation, new code samples, and more flexible integration interfaces.
