Red Hat's plans for X.org and Wayland in RHEL 10

According to the plan announced by Carlos Soriano Sanchez, the X.org graphics server and related components will be removed from Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10. The release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10 is scheduled for 2025, CentOS Stream 10 - for 2024. XWayland will be used to power applications that require X11.

Thus, in 2029 (by the end of the first stage of support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9), we should expect the appearance of the first hardware that does not support X11. At the moment, X11 hardware support is a prerequisite for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8/9 and CentOS Stream 8/9 to work on the X11 protocol.
