Huawei HarmonyOS platform will first appear on Mate 40 smartphones, and then on P40

Huawei is already working on introducing its own operating system HarmonyOS (HongMengOS in the Chinese market) into its smartphones. The company previously reported that the system will appear on mobile devices sometime in 2021, and recently it was reported that smartphones based on the advanced Kirin 9000 5G single-chip system will be the first to run the new OS.

According to a new leak from a Chinese whistleblower on Weibo, the first smartphones to run HarmonyOS will be Kirin 9000 5G solutions. In addition, phones with the Kirin 990 5G will be next, followed by the 4G variant of the Kirin 990 and other SoCs such as the Kirin 985, 980, 820, 810 and later even the 710.

The fact that Kirin 9000 5G smartphones will be the first to run the company's own OS suggests that this Huawei Mate 40 family could be the first to get the company's own OS pre-installed. Perhaps the Huawei P40 smartphones based on the Kirin 990 5G will be the second in line to receive the new OS. The process of distribution of updates can occur gradually over several months and will eventually affect most of the company's models.

Unfortunately, this is still an unofficial report, so it's best to take it with a certain degree of disbelief for now. In addition, it is not yet known which devices and in what order the company plans to include in the HarmonyOS update. It is also curious whether HarmonyOS will be the only option receiving updates, or whether the proprietary EMUI add-on for Android will develop in parallel.
