The third open recruitment to the Roscosmos cosmonaut corps continues. The head of the Cosmonaut Training Center, Hero of Russia Pavel Vlasov spoke about the progress of the program in an interview with RIA Novosti.
The current recruitment for the cosmonaut corps started in June last year. Potential cosmonauts will be subject to very stringent requirements. They must have good health, professional fitness and a certain body of knowledge. Only citizens of the Russian Federation can join the Roscosmos cosmonaut corps.
It is reported that to date 922 applications have been received from potential candidates. Among them, 15 applicants are from the rocket and space industry, two from Rosatom, nine from the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
It is also noted that 74 packages of necessary documents have already been provided. Of these, 58 were sent by men, another 16 by women.
The current open recruitment for the cosmonaut corps will last until June of this year. From the total number of applicants, only four astronaut candidates will be selected. They will have to prepare for flights on the Soyuz and Orel spacecraft, for a visit to the International Space Station (ISS), as well as for the manned lunar program.
