Debian 8 support extended beyond the standard 5 years

Debian 8 support extended beyond the standard 5 years

Developers of the LTS branches of the distribution (LTS Team) Debian 8 Jessie announced their intention to extend support Debian 8 for a period of, exceeding standard 5 years. Initially, support for the eighth version of the distribution was planned before July 2020 year.

Extended support will be provided by Freexian under the LTS Extended program.

As part of the extended support of the distribution, support will be provided for a limited set of packages that support only two architectures βˆ’ amd64 ΠΈ i386.

Some packages will not be supported and will be offered replacements:

  • Core Linux 3.16 will be replaced by Linux 4.9, backported from the 9th version of the distribution
  • openjdk-7 will be replaced by openjdk-8
  • Tomcat7 will only be supported until March 2021 years

To connect support, you will need to register a special repository from Freexian in sources.list. Access to the repository will be free, and the number of packages in it will depend on the number of project sponsors and the packages they need.
