Meme police: Sony began chasing an image that makes fun of The Last of Us Part II character

Last week portal One Angry Gamer reported that a video by a YouTuber under the pseudonym appabend was blocked for using a meme based on The Last of Us Part II, created based on a frame from leaked story videos.

The next day already One Angry Gamer received a notification from Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) lawyers demanding the removal of the infringing image.

The meme shows the heroine of The Last of Us Part II named Abby (she was in game trailer from Paris Games Week 2017), stylized as a character from Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance — Senator Armstrong.

The creator of the image decided to make fun of the heroine’s athleticism: in the frame from the leak, Abby appears in a not very feminine form. To avoid spoilers, we will not publish the meme: anyone who wants can take a look in microblog appabend.

As for SIE's appeal, the Japanese platform holder believes that One Angry Gamer does not have the rights to the image modified for humorous purposes, but still not permitted for distribution.

There is nothing surprising in the Japanese company’s attempts to cope with the consequences of leaks of The Last of Us Part II videos. For the same purposes, for example, under the latest videos about the game comments were disabled.

The Last of Us Part II is expected to release on June 19 exclusively on PS4. By mid-April group of hackers gained access to videos hosted on the Naughty Dog server and posted them for everyone to see.
