During the presentation of the Snapdragon 865 flagship chipset for mobile devices in December 2019, Qualcomm also announced its intention to allow updating drivers for the graphics subsystem of devices based on its processors through Google Play. Today at the Game Developers Summit, Google and Qualcomm reported on the work done in this direction and announced that the Pixel 4 smartphone will be one of the first devices to receive a GPU driver update through Google Play.

Google also showed off a tool today. Android GPU Inspector, which is designed to simplify the creation and optimization of games for its mobile operating system. The tool provides previously unavailable information about game rendering stages and GPU load. Data obtained from Android GPU Inspector can be used by application developers for optimization: increasing frame rates and reducing power consumption.
Google shared an example of how to work with Android GPU Inspector helped improve a certain game on the Pixel 4 XL, making it 40% more efficient at using GPU resources.

Qualcomm collaborated with Google on the tool, which is explained by the widespread use of the Adreno family of GPUs. It is stated that using Android With GPU Inspector, app developers can submit driver patches directly to the chip manufacturer. Drivers updated with these patches will be compiled and released as updates available on Google Play. As on PCs, these updates will introduce new features and improve graphics performance.
Also during today's event, it was announced that Qualcomm and Google are currently actively working on updated graphics drivers for devices based on the Snapdragon 855 processor, such as Pixel 4, Samsung Galaxy S10 and Note 10. Other devices will receive the updated software later.
