Twitter users can now hide replies to their posts

After several months of testing, the social network Twitter has a feature that allows users to hide replies to their posts. Instead of deleting an inappropriate or offensive comment, a new option will allow you to continue the conversation.

Other users will still be able to see replies to your posts by clicking on the icon that appears after hiding certain replies. The new feature is available to all users who interact with the social network through the web interface, as well as in branded mobile applications, including Twitter Lite.

Twitter representatives say that during the testing process, the new feature was mainly used to divert attention from comments that users considered "inappropriate, off-topic or annoying."

The widespread use of hiding comments comes at a time when Twitter is starting to take a closer look at ensuring that users abide by the rules of the social network. In the third quarter of 2019, Twitter removed more than 50% of offensive messages before they were flagged, according to official figures. Despite this, the company understands that they still have a lot of work ahead of them.

β€œAll users should feel safe and comfortable while communicating on Twitter. For this to happen, we need to change the way we communicate on our service,” said Suzanne Xie, director of product management for Twitter.
