Now network sources are talking about the imminent launch of a tool that will help increase the level of confidentiality of user data.

Not long ago, a beta version of WhatsApp 2.20.66 became available to a limited number of users. The developers have added a number of new features to this version of the application, the main one of which is the ability to protect user backups with a password.

Since the new feature was discovered in the Android version of WhatsApp, it is difficult to say whether it will be available to iOS smartphone owners. The message says that at the moment, password protection for a backup stored in the Google Drive cloud space is in development, so it is unknown when it will appear in the stable version of the messenger. Essentially, the feature of setting a password on your data backup will eliminate the possibility of Facebook, which owns WhatsApp, or Google having access to user information. To use the new feature, you will need to activate it in the backup settings menu and also set a password.

It is currently unknown how exactly the new feature will work. Obviously, users will not be able to recover chat history without entering the password that was set in the settings. The feature in question will appear in one of the next stable versions of the WhatsApp messenger.
