Not long ago, a beta version of WhatsApp 2.20.66 became available to a limited number of users. The developers have added a number of new features to this version of the application, the main one of which is the ability to protect user backups with a password.

Since the new feature was discovered in the WhatsApp version for devices based on AndroidIt's difficult to say whether this feature will be available to iOS smartphone owners. The announcement states that password protection for backups stored in Google Drive is currently in development, so it's unclear when it will be available in the stable version of the messenger. Essentially, setting a password for backup data will prevent Facebook, which owns WhatsApp, or Google from accessing user information. To use the new feature, you'll need to activate it in the backup settings menu and set a password.
