The practice of preparing foreign words with voice acting for memorization in the Anki program
In the article I will tell about my personal experience of memorizing English words using the wonderful program with an unobvious Anki interface. I will show you how not to turn into a routine the creation of new cards with voice acting for memorization.
It is assumed that the reader already has an understanding of the spaced repetition technique and is familiar with Anki. But if you're not familiar, it's time meet.
Laziness for an IT specialist is a great thing: on the one hand, it makes you get rid of the routine through automation, on the other hand, with a large amount of routine, laziness wins, suppressing interest in self-learning.
How not to turn the process of self-creation of cards for memorizing foreign words into a routine?
Here is my recipe:
Register on AnkiWeb
Install Anki
Install the AwesomeTTS plugin
Add bookmarks in the browser:
Google translator
google spreadsheets
multitran
Cooking cards
Synchronizing
Registration on AnkiWeb
Registration is not tricky, but it gives you the ability to use Anki on different devices. I use the Android version of Anki for memorization and the PC version for creating new flashcards. You don't have to install the application on your smartphone, because you can memorize cards directly on the site under your account.
To import new words into Anki we will use google spreadsheets, so you need to create a table in your account: in the first column (this is important) there will be a foreign version, if possible, with an example in context, in the second - a translation.

Writing down unfamiliar words
For the first time I saw an explanation from Yagodkin, how he recommends using the method of βcorrector visionβ to quickly extract incomprehensible words from a foreign text in order to memorize them.
The essence of the method:
You read a foreign text very quickly.
Mark words that you don't understand the meaning of.
Write out these words, translate in context and memorize (at this stage Anki is used).
Then read the text again, but with an understanding of all the words, because see p.3.
Maybe the method is somehow called differently (tell me in the comments), but I think the essence is clear.
Translate
Everything is obvious here: copy-paste the word into the corresponding field of the translator and select the translation that suits the context.
In some cases, I look at multitranto learn translations and usage in different contexts.
We put the translation into a Google spreadsheet. Here is an example of filling:
Now save the table in TSV: File β Download β TSV
This file needs to be imported into the Anki deck.
Importing new words into Anki
Run Anki, File β Import. We select a file. Load into the Default deck with the following settings:
My Default deck always contains new words, to which I have not yet added voice acting.
Voice acting
Google Cloud Text-to-speech is a specialized service that allows you to qualitatively translate text into speech. To use it in Anki, you need to generate either your API key, or the one suggested by the author of the AwesomeTTS plugin in the documentation (see section API KEY).
In Anki, click on Browse, select the Default deck, select all imported cards, and choose AwesomeTTS β Add audio to selectedβ¦ from the menu.
In the window that appears, select the previously saved profile with the Google Text-to-speech service. We check that the source for voice acting and the field for inserting voice acting are equal to Front, and click Generate:
If the card contains elements that do not need to be voiced, then you will have to process each card in turn, highlighting the words for voice acting in it:
After voice acting, I move these cards to the deck that I will memorize, leaving the Default deck empty for new words.
Synchronization
I use Anki on PC to create and group flashcards by topic. it is most convenient to do it in this version.
I have already shown above how to set up Anki for PC to sync with AnkiWeb.
After installing the Android app, setting up synchronization is even easier.
Sometimes there are synchronization conflicts in the program. For example, you changed the same card on different devices, or due to synchronization failures. In this case, the application will issue a warning on which source to take as the basis for synchronization: either AnkiWeb or the application - the main thing here is not to make a mistake, otherwise the learning progress data and the changes made may be erased.
Wishlist
Unfortunately, I did not find a convenient and quick way to get a transcription for words. It would be ideal if there was a plugin for this with a similar principle to AwesomeTTS. Therefore, I no longer write the transcription in the card (laziness won :). But perhaps in nature there is already something similar and, a respected habrazhite, will write about it in the comments ...
