South Korean government moves to Linux

South Korea is about to switch all its government computers to Linux, ditching Windows. The Department of the Interior and Security believes that switching to Linux will reduce costs and reduce dependence on a single operating system.

At the end of 2020, free support for Windows 7, which is widely used in government, is ending, so this decision looks quite justified.

It is not yet known whether we are talking about using an existing distribution or creating a new one.

The ministry estimates that the transition to Linux will cost $655 million.
