Lapdock proposed to turn Librem 5 smartphone into a laptop

Purism, which develops the Librem 5 smartphone and a series of laptops, servers and mini PCs that come with Linux and CoreBoot, has introduced the Lapdock Kit, which allows you to use your Librem 5 smartphone as a full-fledged laptop. Lapdock introduces a laptop frame with a keyboard and a 13.3-inch 360-degree swivel screen, which additionally allows you to use the device as a tablet. Using a smartphone as the core for a laptop makes it possible to always keep data and applications with you.

The already released Nexdock 360 platform is used as the basis for Lapdock, which is supplemented with a holder for attaching a smartphone to a docking station and a cable. The docking station weighs 1.1 kg and contains a 13.3-inch IPS screen (1920Γ—1080), full-size keyboard, multi-touch trackpad, battery (5800 mAh), Mini HDMI, USB-C 3.1 with DisplayPort, USB-C 3.0, USB -C PD for charging, Micro SDXC card reader, 3.5mm audio jack, speakers. The size of the device is 30.7 x 20.9 x 1.5 cm. In addition to Librem 5, smartphones based on the Android platform can also be used with the docking station. The Lapdock Kit is $339 (the Nexdock 360 is $299).

The Librem 5 smartphone is equipped with almost only free software, including drivers and firmware, gives the user full control over the device and is equipped with hardware switches that allow you to disable the camera, microphone, GPS, WiFi / Bluetooth and the Baseband module at the circuit break level. The device comes with a completely free PureOS Linux distribution that uses the Debian package base and offers a GNOME-based adaptive user environment for mobile and desktop devices (the application interface dynamically changes depending on the screen size and available input devices). The environment allows you to work with the same GNOME applications both on the touch screen of a smartphone and on large screens in combination with a keyboard and mouse.
