A new Russian commercial distribution kit ROSA CHROME 12 is presented

STC IT ROSA has introduced a new Linux distribution kit ROSA CHROME 12, based on the rosa2021.1 platform, supplied only in paid editions and oriented to use in the corporate sector. The distribution kit is available in assemblies for workstations and servers. The workstation edition uses the KDE Plasma 5 shell. ISO installation images are not distributed publicly and are available only upon request. For free use, the ROSA Fresh 12 product is positioned on the same platform, with the same desktop and with a similar set of changes (repository, iso images).

  • Support for x86 and ARM architectures, including support for the aarch64 (ARMv8) platform and Russian Baikal-M processors. Support for the e2k (Elbrus) architecture is under development.
  • Switched from package managers RPM 5 and urpmi to RPM 4 and dnf.
  • System environment based on Linux kernel 5.10, Glibc 2.33 (in backward compatibility with Linux kernels up to 4.14.x), GCC 11.2 and systemd 249+.
  • The Anaconda project is used as the setup program (installer). In addition to text and graphical installation modes, automated methods for deploying the operating system using PXE and Kickstart scripts are available.
  • Loader with localized interface support and GDM-based login manager.
  • Support for the organization of a closed software environment out of the box, which allows you to prohibit the execution of untrusted code (in this case, the administrator himself determines what he considers trusted, trust is not imposed on third-party software), which is important for building highly secure desktop, server and cloud environments (IMA).
  • A set of graphical programs of our own design: tools for configuring various system components in a single control panel, a kiosk, setting quotas, launching programs, etc.
  • Support for encryption based on OpenSSL, support for GOST crypto algorithms, VPN, the Chromium browser from the repository supports GOST TLS through CryptoPro.
  • The presence of a compact server assembly, suitable both for operation on conventional equipment and under the control of hypervisors and cloud environments.
  • Support for popular containerization, orchestration and application delivery tools: Docker, Kubernetes, etc.
