Opera One web browser introduced, replacing the current Opera browser

Testing of the new Opera One web browser has begun, which, after stabilization, will replace the current Opera browser. Opera One continues to use the Chromium engine and features a completely redesigned modular architecture, multi-threaded rendering, and new tab grouping capabilities. Opera One builds are prepared for Linux (deb, rpm, snap), Windows and MacOS.

The transition to a multi-threaded rendering engine has significantly increased the responsiveness of the interface and the efficiency of using visual effects and animations. For the interface, a separate thread is proposed that performs tasks related to drawing and displaying animation. A separate rendering thread offloads the main thread responsible for rendering the interface, which allows for smoother rendering and avoids hangs due to blocking in the main thread.

To simplify navigation through a large number of open pages, the concept of "tab islands" ("Tab Islands") is proposed, which allows you to automatically group similar pages depending on the context of navigation (work, shopping, entertainment, travel, etc.). The user can quickly switch between different groups and collapse tab islands to free up space in the panel for other tasks. Each island of tabs can have its own color scheme of the window.

The sidebar has been modernized, through which you can manage workspaces with groups of tabs, place buttons for accessing multimedia services (Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, Tidal) and instant messengers (Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Telegram). In addition, the modular architecture allows additional features to be integrated into the browser, such as interactive assistants based on machine learning services such as ChatGPT and ChatSonic, which can also be embedded in the sidebar.
