The concept of the Venera-D space mission is presented

The Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IKI RAS) announces the publication of a report on the second stage of the work of specialists in the framework of the Venera-D project.

The concept of the Venera-D space mission is presented

The main goal of the Venera-D mission is a comprehensive study of the second planet in the solar system. To do this, it is planned to use the orbital and landing modules. In addition to the Russian side, the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is taking part in the project.

So, it is reported that the published report was called "Venera-D": Expanding the horizons of our ideas about the climate and geology of the terrestrial planet through a comprehensive study of Venus.

The document presents the concept of the project, which provides for the study of the atmosphere, surface, internal structure and surrounding plasma of Venus. In addition, key scientific tasks are formulated.

The orbital module will have to investigate the dynamics, the nature of the superrotation of the atmosphere of Venus, the vertical structure and composition of the atmosphere and clouds, the distribution and nature of an unknown absorber of ultraviolet radiation, etc.

It is planned to install a small long-lived station on the lander. These modules will study the composition of the soil at a depth of several centimeters, the processes of interaction between the surface matter and the atmosphere, and the atmosphere itself. The lifetime of a lander should be 2–3 hours, and a long-lived station should be at least 60 days.

The launch of Venera-D can be carried out from the Vostochny Cosmodrome using the Angara-A5 launch vehicle in the period from 2026 to 2031.
