The first all-Chinese consumer SSDs with PCIe 5.0 have been introduced – the YMTC PC550 with speeds of up to 10,5 GB/s.

Chinese company Yangtze Memory Technologies has expanded its line of consumer SSDs with the PC550 model. These are the vendor's first M.2 drives with a PCIe 5.0 interface, positioned for use in AI-powered computers and commercial client systems. They will be available in 512 GB, 1 TB, and 2 TB capacities.

The PC550 drives use the PCIe 5.0 x4 interface and the NVMe specification, combined with YMTC X4-9070 3D NAND flash memory chips, based on the Xtacking 4.0 architecture. The company claims that the use of a four-channel controller reduces power consumption and heat dissipation compared to an eight-channel design. According to YMTC, idle power consumption is less than 3 mW, and under active use, less than 6 W, which is consistent with the SSDs' focus on laptops.

The PC550 drives will be available in M.2 2242 and M.2 2280 form factors with an operating temperature range of 0ºC to 70ºC. Regarding performance, the vendor claims sequential read speeds of up to 10,500 MB/s and sequential write speeds of up to 10,000 MB/s.

The 1TB and 2TB models deliver up to 1,300,000 random read and write IOPS, while the 512GB model delivers 880,000 random read IOPS and 1,100,000 random write IOPS.

The PC550 product page on the vendor's website currently doesn't list how to purchase the new drives, but interested buyers can submit a request. It's safe to assume YMTC is primarily targeting OEMs and system integrators, but it's possible the new drives will also become available for retail.
