For the past couple of years, TrueOS has been mostly a hobby project of a few iXsystems employees, according to Moore. However, the lack of interest from the community, as well as the hard work on TrueNAS, led to a halt in the project. The formerly TrueOS-based Trident distribution is already to use Void Linux. GhostBSD Developers move away from TrueOS due to being tied to the OpenRC system manager, but will likely be forced back to FreeBSD as a base.
