The Premier League will return with realistic sound simulation of fans from FIFA games

The English Premier League is due to resume in the coming weeks, and Sky Sports is working with EA Sports FIFA's gaming division to create realistic simulations of fan chants and other crowd noises specific to competing teams.

The goal is to recreate the vibrant atmosphere of struggle during the Premier League. While some sports leagues are starting to resume seasons previously halted by the global COVID-19 pandemic, precautionary measures are forcing teams to play in empty stadiums.

Watching sports broadcasts without constant applause and shouting in the background is very unusual. Oddly enough, while watching such matches, silence can even be distracting. Viewers of Sky Sports will be able to watch the channel with or without superimposed sound effects.

Sky is also working on other innovations. On the Sky Sports website and within the app, fans will be able to share selected matches with friends in a video room and interact virtually. This means, among other things, that fans will collectively be able to influence the crowd noise they hear during the broadcast.

β€œDuring the suspension of sports for more than two months, we have spent a lot of time thinking about how to broadcast matches in a new way to bring fans together, even if they cannot meet to watch the match together,” said Sky Sports Managing Director Rob Webster (Rob Webster). β€œWe want Sky Sports viewers to still feel it all and have the best viewing experience, even if they can’t be in stadiums or watch matches with family and friends.”
